REGISTER NATIONAL 2008

July 8th to July 14th
Pickering, North Yorkshire
A lot of progress has now been made in the organising of the 2008 National at Pickering. All the major tasks are now complete, including the site reservations on this fantastic recently modernised site, local places of interest to visit in the area have been collated, events are planned and the Saturday Evening Function is all booked and looking good!
The Friday Evening Welcome will take on the traditional style, except with outside caterers doing the food instead of ourselves. There is no additional cost to Members, but raffle tickets will be on sale from when you arrive (hint) - any profits from their sale will be going towards the food and the chosen charity! You only have to bring your own drink and some loose change! There will be plenty of cover should the weather not be on our side!
The Saturday Concours will take place on an area of the campsite, and will take the usual format, with those vehicles whom the proud owners want judging being in different catagories depending on the model. As usual, volunteers will be sought to do the necessary judging. A lot of people think this is a bit of a daunting and thankless task which takes up the majority of the day, but this is not the case, as the numbers of our cars deminish, with good examples becoming more difficult to locate, the actual numbers to be judged, compared to say 10 - 15 years ago, is significantly less! Having said that, your vehicle doesn't need to be 'just as it left the showroom' to enter - if you are proud of your Triumph, then others will want to admire it too and there is no reason why it shouldn't be judged. So, think about it, and any volunteers on the day will be greatly appreciated. Just let me or any Register Official know nearer the time.
We are also inviting Traders and Autojumblers to the National - what good car show can be without autojumble? As usual, we ask for a small fee of just £10, which incidentally goes towards the fee that the the site will charge us for visitors / additional vehicles, with any surplus going to the chosen charity of the weekend. This one off fee covers the whole stay whether that be all week or just one day. We just ask that any stands are as discreet as possible, as it is after all a holiday camp site and people who have no interest in cars or Triumphs will be staying at the same time as ourselves. It takes a long time to clear a darkened name, and we would rather be remembered for the right reasons! Members are also invited to bring along Triumph items / parts to sell from their car boot at no charge, but again, please be sensible so that those who don't really understand our interests are not upset!!
The Saturday Evening Function will take place at Pickering Memorial Hall, which is in the town centre, about 6 miles from the site, with plenty of adjacent parking for those wishing to travel in their own car. The Hall has recently been refurbished with a new floor in the main hall fitted late last year due to the floods (the joiners were hard at it when we first visited late summer last year). Free transport is laid on, with a 33 seater coach, which avails us of the ability to stagger the times when people can arrive / depart rather than all arriving / departing on mass. When booking, please could you tick the appropriate box on the booking form as to whether you wish to use the free transport or not, which will give an indication of the numbers for the coach, thereby reducing unnecessary delays. We have an outside caterer, who incidentally is a good personal friend of mine, and I have had first hand experience of her catering abilities - the last event that I went to when she did the catering was exceptional - and I mean exceptional! The bar will be run by a local brewery who incidentally export their own beers all over the world and do their own beer festivals and trade events, so all in all, a good evening is on the agenda!.
The AGM on the Sunday morning will be held back at the Memorial Hall in Pickering.
These three events are the tradional events at our Club Nationals, but there will be plenty of other activites throughout the week and places of interest to visit, runs out where the beauty of the local countryside can be fully appreciated, and enough time for you have an enjoyable stay, and to do as much or as little relaxing as you wish. Most members meet up with old friends that attend every National, which, due to geographical reasons, they may see only once a year! And if you have never attended a National Rally, why not make this the first - I'm sure you won't be disappointed! And whilst the main focus of the event is the Triumph's, the whole family will be made welcome and will find plenty to keep themselves entertained throughout their stay!
There is a booking form at the bottom of the page in PDF or MS Word format. Please print it out, complete it as early as you can, and send to the address on the form with the relevant payment. This applies to those staying on the site AND to those in accomodation off site, who will be visiting and require day passes (the small cost of these is levied by the site owners for the use of the facilities, and not the Club). PLEASE, PLEASE, don't leave your booking to the last minute, as early indications of the numbers help us to plan the event! If you book early, but then some unforseen circumstance prevents you from attending or staying for less days than booked, then no problem - a refund can be made! Easy!
I ask that any Members who wish to attend from outside the UK, please e-mail or contact me before sending off your booking form, as different payment methods will be necessary.
And, finally, if you have any queries about the National, please get in touch either by phone or e-mail.
